Benavides, MD, and Neil Campbell, DPM. Q What do you do in your spare time? A Dr. Benavides (general surgeon): I read history, and I run to stay in shape. Dr. Campbell (podiatrist): I ride mountain bikes with my wife. Q Why did you decide to become a doctor? A Dr. Benavides: I wanted to be a doc- tor since high school at Round Rock. First I studied chemical engineering. A Dr. Campbell: I’d always wanted to be a doctor of some type. After visiting a podiatrist as a patient and shortly thereafter working for him, the die was cast. I entered podiatry school in 1989. Q Why did you choose your specialty? A Dr. Benavides: There’s a technical aspect to surgery—you work with your hands. And there’s a science to it, as well as a challenge. A Dr. Campbell: For one thing, the foot is a complex and fascinating struc- ture. As Socrates wrote, “When our feet hurt, we hurt all over.” Q Your favorite movie, book or sports team? A Dr. Benavides: The movie K2 . A Dr. Campbell: I’m an Aggie, so I root for my team. V.A. Benavides, MD Neil Campbell, DPM
