My family and I are enjoying our first Christmas season in Cuero, having moved here just last fall. But already this special community feels like home. In fact, from day one, I’ve met so many nice people in Cuero. If I haven’t had the privilege of meeting you yet, let me say hello! I’m Cuero Regional Hospital’s Chief Financial Officer. Before joining this team, I worked at a hospital in Las Vegas. I have worked in health care finance for more than 20 years. Now I’m excited to be part of this hospital, which is committed to serving the health needs of you and your family. And the year ahead is no exception. Here’s one new service I’m excited about: a weight-loss program for our patients that will be overseen by Sheryl Mills, MD, starting in January. Speaking of Dr. Mills, I hope to join her; Paul Willers, DO; and Renny McDaniel, MD, in February for the annual Heart Walk. Maybe I’ll see you there! Have a happy, healthy holiday, Alma Alexander, Chief Financial Officer Alma Alexander, Chief Financial Officer LEADERSHIP CORNER New look, new faces Other changes besides renova- tion are underway in the ED: + + The ED has a new group of contracted doctors. South- west Medical Associates has partnered with rural hospitals like Cuero. Their focus is on quality and treating patients quickly and with courtesy. + + In October, Cuero’s ED was recertified as a Level 4 trauma center. Such centers can stabilize patients with severe injuries and move them to a higher level of care. Emergency department gets a makeover —Continued from the cover A more private patient registration area that is separate from the waiting room. Six fully private treatment rooms—no more shared bays. 1,000 square feet of new space. A more pleasant area for families to wait comfortably. A new triage area to help patients move through the ED quickly. Modern finishes with soothing colors. “These renovations are part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a highly reliable culture of safety and improving the patient experience,” says Judy Mazak, Director of the ED. AMONG THE CHANGES TO THE ED “Making the ED better for our patients is what this project is all about.” —Lynn Falcone, CEO
