Cuero Regional Hopsital | Connect | Fall 2019

2 Cuero Health • Fall 2019 Good news for inpatients too Dr. Craig’s arrival also coincides with a new telehealth service in the hospital. Together, they’re helping to ensure well- coordinated cardiac care for patients. Here’s an example: Sometimes patients who are admitted to CRH need to be seen by a cardiologist. In the past, some of these patients had to be transferred to another hospital for certain cardiac services. Now those patients can receive a bedside exam at CRH by a heart expert in Dallas via a video screen. More than 100 CRH patients have benefited from the telecardiology service since January. The response has been very positive. “We’ve gotten remarkable feedback from our patients,” Falcone says. And when those patients leave the hospital, Dr. Craig is available to see them at CRH’s Outpatient Specialty Clinic for their follow-up care. His presence, along with the addition of the telecardiology service, means that more patients can stay close to home for cardiac care. It’s another way in which Cuero Regional Hospital continues to expand services in the community. Connect is published as a community service for the friends and patrons of Cuero Regional Hospital, 2550 N. Esplanade St., Cuero, TX 77954, 361-275‑6191 , cuerohospital.org . LEADERSHIP CORNER Providing quality obstetric care In rural health care settings, facilities like ours often focus recruiting efforts on family medicine providers. And with good reason: Family medicine providers, as the name implies, can take care of your whole family—from babies to older adults. They can even help you start a family. As part of their medical residency programs, many family medicine doctors receive obstetrics (OB) training. So they are highly qualified to offer prenatal care and deliver your baby (including by cesarean surgery, if needed). This means you can receive OB services without having to leave your community. And you can receive that care from a provider who already knows you and your family. Let me introduce you to some of our current and future family medicine doctors trained in obstetrics: + + Dan Dugi, MD; Sheryl Mills, MD; and Paul Willers, DO, have been at Cuero Regional Hospital for several years. + + Saundra Anderson, DO, also delivers at Cuero Regional Hospital. + + Cody Walthall, MD, joined CRH in August after finishing a residency program at the University of Arkansas. + + Nicholas Lemley, DO, will join us next year after he graduates from the Texas A&M Family Residency Program. We’re excited about this opportunity to grow our local OB services. And we look forward to building relationships with your entire family. Lynn Falcone, Chief Executive Officer Lynn Falcone Chief Executive Officer —Continued from front page Getting to the heart of the matter Virtual visits with a psychiatrist now available It’s not always easy to access mental health care in rural Texas. One reason is a lack of local providers. A new telehealth service at Cuero Regional Hospital could help change that. Telehealth office visits for mental health care are held at the Outpatient Specialty Clinic. During a telehealth visit, you can talk to a psychiatrist—a medical doctor—through Access Physicians, a telemedicine provider in Dallas. You and the psychiatrist will see and hear each other through a video screen. “With this service, we are addressing an unmet need in our community,” says Lynn Falcone, Chief Executive Officer at CRH. For an appointment, call 361-275-0170 . No referral is necessary. Make the call.
