More specialty care via telehealth We also offer cardiology via telehealth in our hospital. Patients admitted to our hospital who need to be seen by a heart specialist can be examined through a remote video call. Afterward, they can get their follow- up cardiology care at our CRH Outpatient Specialty Clinic. This helps keep care local for our patients and their families. We also offer virtual mental health care visits with a psychiatrist or a behavioral health counselor. These services are helping to meet our community’s needs for mental health care. DUE TO ITS POPULARITY, the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program at Cuero Regional Hospital (CRH) is expanding into a new and better location. Cardiopulmonary rehab helps improve the health of people with conditions such as heart attacks, heart failure, heart surgeries or lung disease. It combines medically supervised exercise with heart and lung health education and counseling. Brenda Martin, respiratory therapist, handles the pulmonary rehabilitation portion of the program, helping patients with chronic respiratory disease. CRH launched the program in July 2020. As more people enrolled, more room was needed—for participants as well as more exercise equipment, says Jennifer Janssen, RN, BSN, ICU/PACU/ Day Surgery Director. A decision was made to trade spaces with the larger hospital day surgery waiting area across the hall. Janssen, who manages the rehab program, has obtained a new stepper exercise machine and hopes to purchase and add a stationary bike. “The new space is brighter and more inviting,” Janssen says. An entire wall is windowed to let in more natural light, and the room has recently been remodeled to include a colorful paint scheme. Rehab participants meet for one hour three times a week for 36 sessions. The goals of the program include helping people: + Safely get stronger + Reduce their risk of further heart and lung problems + Enjoy an improved quality of life Are you new to telehealth?
