Vision: Striving together to become the first choice for health and wellness by consistently exceeding expectations. Quality care close to home CRH offers many services close to where community members live, whether they need general surgery, an MRI scan or nuclear medicine testing. “One of the things I’m proud of is our accredited stroke program,” Falcone says. People experiencing the most common type of stroke can receive rapid treatment, which may limit disability. In 2019, CRH also earned the American Heart Association’s Gold Plus Award for stroke care. In 2019, CRH also added telehealth equipment, which connects patients to mental health and cardiac specialists in Dallas via the internet. For rural communities like Cuero, telehealth provides much- needed access to crucial mental health services and to additional inpatient cardiology care. A bright future Looking ahead, Falcone says, the hospital will continue to focus on offering patients the best possible care, adding needed services and promoting community health. “I’m honored to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the hospital, and we are poised to continue for another 50 years,” she says. —Continued from front page 50 years of caring for the community Raymond Reese, MD, was in his eighth year as a family physician when Cuero Regional Hospital opened in September 1970. One of his patients, a laboring mother, was among the first to be received at the new facility. “I delivered the first baby,” he recalls. Dr. Reese, 85, is a Cuero native. While in high school, a local doctor he caddied for encouraged him to go into medicine. He has practiced in Cuero since 1962. Though he no longer delivers babies, Dr. Reese continues to care for multiple generations of families at Cuero Medical Clinic. “You kind of become attached,” he says. 1970: Cuero Community Hospital opens 1981: Emergency services established 1984: Cuero Home Health opens 1993: Medical plaza completed 1998: Childbirth center added 2011: Belle Terry Elder Women’s Center opens 2013: Front entrance expands and Hamilton-Walls Chapel built 2014: Bfit Cuero Wellness Center constructed 2016: Affiliation established with Methodist Healthcare San Antonio 2017: Name changed to Cuero Regional Hospital 2018: $1.5 million emergency room renovation completed 2019: Remote telehealth services begin Timeline of events Many key developments have occurred in 50 years. Among them: Resilience: An open letter from Cuero Health At Cuero Regional Hospital and across our Cuero Health organization, we’re no strangers to threats or crises. When it comes to safety, we are focused on this critical issue (COVID-19) for our patients and staff. Some may say that managing life-threatening situations is part of business as usual for a health care system. And it’s true. Our Cuero Health staff is highly trained for this current environment. As this latest threat evolves, we are continuing to collaborate with federal and local health agencies to provide updates that will help contribute to accurate reporting and consistent guidelines. While our immediate priority remains on the well-being of our patients, we know that sharing insights can impact care far beyond the communities we serve. To keep you informed on the latest updates from Cuero Health, we invite you to visit cuerohospital. org o r follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/CueroHospital . In the face of a threat, we don’t panic; we prepare. As always, we are here when you need us. We are in this together. Neighbor helping neighbor. Providing safe, quality care close to home. For 50 years. Lynn Falcone, Chief Executive Officer Family doctor has been here from the beginning
